- Do a search on the word “polymath” and you will see an image or reference to Leonardo da Vinci in nearly every result. Many historical figures—not all of them world famous, not all Europeans, men, or from the Italian Renaissance—fit the description.

Something very important for everyone to think about: I want to put these two articles together from a source I can still respect because I am actually surprised that these two can coexist in a place where many economists go to get their news - but seem to have failed to realize the inherent problems in economics. The first is about Silicon Valley and it's 'rising costs' (despite many companies getting very rich there), the fact that, as companies grow, they increase the prices (and values) of the areas around them, which is rightly so, but doesn't do much for the local communities who are often forced out and other obvious negative side effects of success (the positive ones, such as escaping paying taxes they should rightly pay, etc. - notwithstanding). Here, we have an example of people who are successful - and the 'collaterally damaged' around them - having to pay a rice for success. They pay in the form of other businesses trying to profit off their success, rather than keeping things 'realistic' and allowing opportunities for others to find that same success. The second is about why Democratic Socialism is becoming popular - something that has already happened in many European countries which are doing better with regard to business, education, health care and many other things, mostly, because they don't exist in a 'exploit the successful and screw everyone else' type economy. In addition, it goes on to explain why raising minimum wages, making homes and health care more affordable, and elevating the middle class is so important. These things, alone, may not appear to present a problem any more superficial than, unfortunately, the average person can wrap their heads around. However, when put together, an economist, business leader or other upper-level thinker should clearly be able to see there are many fundamental problems here. It seems like common sense that companies would want to pay taxes in order to make sure the infrastructure around them is being kept up so they can continue to run their businesses efficiently. It also seems like these companies would want to take care of their employees, since they are the ones who actually do the work. Further, it would seem that the companies would want to give their customers - the ones they depend on for money and success (unless they get so big they need only depend on stock manipulation, etc) - the best price, rather than constantly raising the prices for things that actually cost very little in comparison to the things that preceded them, since the technology is not really more expensive (it is, more likely, just an opportunity for the company to charge more. So let's look at what we get instead: We get companies who don't pay their fair share of taxes, claiming that they can provide more (cheap) jobs if they don't have to spend (more) money that they already aren't spending (paying employees having a living wage). We get employees not only having less pay for more work but also having rising housing, health care and other living costs, not to mention, having to pay more taxes to shore up the taxes the government is getting screwed out of by the corporations not paying their fair share. I think the bankers, the corporations, the economists and the government are screwing the population. Yes, I am absolutely sure that this is the case. I suspect it is because people think that, since they work for these companies, they are part of the people who 'get a break'. But actually, they are not. They are also part of the population. They are screwing their fellow citizens - and they are getting screwed. Unfortunately, they have been 'baffled with BS', deprived of an education (or saddled with educational debt that consumes them) and distracted by meaningless things for so long that they can no longer see it all for what it is...BS. So, you own a store...small Mom & Pop store...and then WalMart moves in. You go to WalMart to get your stuff for your store...and you want a great price. Then, you go back to YOUR store and charge a higher price...even though the people in your store also want a better price. That is why they all start going to WalMart and, eventually, your store is history. Who do you think helped WalMart take your store away from you? Did you think you were being smart by screwing the people around you, rather than directing them to WalMart? For those who want to try to 'pick all this apart' with their 'logic' - please don't waste your time. We all know what is going on. The ones who dare try to condone or defend it - they are suspect. We live in an environment of opportunists and unethical business people, governments who steal our money and use it on things we do not want it used on while *not* using it on what we do. We live in a corporate environment where the companies screw the people who do the work, screw the people who pay them the money and lobby the government so they don't have to pay taxes - putting the burden squarely on those who are already getting screwed in countless ways - the middle class. How long do big businesses, the government, economists, bankers and the rest of the crooked, unethical, thieving opportunists believe that this type of scenario is going to last? Let's also add in the scientists who are doing all they can to warn us that these pathetic 'upper level people' are also destroying the planet, destroying our health, coming up with dangerous new tech at a pace that gets it into everyones' hands quickly - but far too quick for us to create law to safeguard us from its dangers. How do you think they feel? How long do you think we are even going to have scientists willing to tolerate this idiocy? What happens when they are gone? How about law, let's talk about that. Poor education, totalitarian governments, unethical big business, banking that wants to create debt slaves, etc...do you think they are molding Law Enforcement into the people that protect and serve those folks who are perpetually getting screwed and forced to carry the burdens that all those opportunists are thrusting on them? Is that what we are seeing now? I don't think so. And then, there is the biggest question: How much longer do you even think there will be economists (the ones failing us now - notwithstanding). How long before they all become the enemy, just like scientists have, just like everyone else who is actually trying to help the people (like Social Democrats do). Without ethics, we are on our way to the end, marching like a bunch of ignorant lemmings. Start marking your calendars, folks. If we don't make profound, systemic change, there won't be a lot more time to think about these questions. Thanks for taking the time to read this...

If there ever was a politician who, though partisan, was willing and able to reach across party lines in good faith and stand up for what he believed in, it was Sen. John McCain. I believe it is the epitome of political responsibility to give him credit for that alone, as it is so rare and needed in the modern day. He was every bit a patriot and a maverick. He was a man of action, whether or not it resulted in a high quality return which allowed him to learn and grow his entire life. It is unfortunate he is no longer in Congress but he has done the best with his time, despite struggle, and is well overdue for a rest. Rest In Peace, Sen. McCain. You certainly deserve it. Condolences to his family, as well.

Here's a very interesting article regarding a study on personal authenticity. I think it's very interesting:

Here's a very interesting article regarding a study on personal authenticity. I think it's very interesting: - As the Bard said: to thine own self be true. But how, or more accurately when, do we get a real sense of authenticity?

Some would say I'm deeply emotional (though, I prefer the word 'passionate') and they would not be incorrect, however, many have thought otherwise. This is the burden one carries when they are a Stoic. Fortunately, I have only been to one funeral in my life - for a supply sergeant in my Army unit who was killed on his motorcycle by an idiot in an automobile who broadsided him. He was a good man. I have no plans to attend any others (although, I would happily attend a wake) and, though, I may do it out of respect, I will not shed a tear. If it is more than you can bear, you probably don't want to invite me to a funeral. I offer this in my defense:

🌳 And now for something completely different 🌲: "In 1945, Walt E. Disney and Salvador Dali began collaborating on an animated film. 58 years later, with Dalí long gone and Disney gone longer still, it came out. The delayed arrival of 'Destino' had to do with money trouble at the Walt Disney Studios not long after the project began, and it seems that few laid eyes on its unfinished materials again until Disney's nephew Roy E. Disney came across them in 1999. Completed, it premiered at the 2003 New York Film Festival and received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film. Now, fifteen years later, we know for sure that 'Destino' has found a place in the culture, because someone has mashed it up with Pink Floyd."

I'm sure no relatively intelligent person ever needed any more reasons not to read the National Enquirer, but they are the prime example of 'Fake News'. Oddly enough, they've been promoting Trump for years and, in case you needed any more evidence of how full of BS they are (much like Trump, himself), their publisher is now, along with Cohen and despite hyping Trump for years, about to turn over evidence against him. Here's an article from back at the beginning of 2017 (only the ridiculously misinformed would still support this poor excuse for a President, let alone human being) clearly indicating the ridiculousness of just about every word he has said since taking office. After all, if it's in the Enquirer, it's GOT to be true, right? 🤨 There's only one way to repair the damage the people did by putting this moron in the White House and salvage their reputations (if at all possible) - and that's to do everything they can to remove him. The alternative is to bury yourself in silence while hiding your true opinion, and painfully watch as this train wreck ensures the end of the Republican Party. Let's just hope the people apply some balance and don't give the Democrats too much power either (since there is no benefit to be gained by trusting politicians). If the people are smart, they will start applying more effort in their research, act a bit more responsibly and learn to govern themselves. It's either that...or a lifetime of suffering at the whims of people who care about as much about others as the electorate does (seemingly, very little). When you care about nobody but yourself, you get politicians who care about nobody but themselves. People must set the example they want their politicians to follow, since they are 'of the people'. It is ridiculous to try and hold them to a different standard than the one to which we hold ourselves. This is just common sense - you know, that thing that is becoming extinct.

"Truth always rests with the minority, and the minority is always stronger than the majority, because the minority is generally formed by those who really have an opinion, while the strength of a majority is illusory, formed by the gangs who have no opinion — and who, therefore, in the next instant (when it is evident that the minority is the stronger) assume its opinion… while truth again reverts to a new minority." — Søren Kierkegaard, 'Diary'

What a shame... This is a perfect example of how people might think that doing something irresponsible is not a big deal but, when (billions of) other people follow their example, it becomes catastrophic. Just don’t do it! Just because there is no ‘perceived’ danger does not mean there is no danger. Imagine how all those people who discovered overfishing, over-farming their land, deforestation and other foolish activities must have felt later when their ignorance and irresponsibility went into full effect and there were no more fish, crops or trees to sustain them. Some people, like the Chinese - where overpopulation has already taken a toll (or the Texas A&M Agriculture specialists who traveled there to teach them how to restore their farmable land) - can tell you about these things already. You certainly won’t hear it from anyone who has to foot the bill for fixing it, like...Politicians. Eventually, they will also have to come to terms with it - with the added ‘bonus’ of being directly responsible for not doing anything about it (which, in fact, we are all guilty of...if you think about it). Imagine how we’re going to feel in the future when our skies have no more ability to protect us from the dangers of outer space and terrestrial weather or our seas have no more fish. Might want to start learning how to digest plastic and wear armor while breathing through a gas mask - or do something about that now, before it’s too late. Even if you’re not going to be around then, what kind of human dooms their descendants to having to live such a life? Not a responsible one...

Truly amazing talent! /mdig. 👦🎸❤🎶😍👏👏https://ift.tt/2OtFW6L

Can't wait for those wonderful 'trade war tariffs' to go into effect this week. I suppose we'll see what happens when we have an idiot running the country...

This is something worth seeing. Sure, it is Prog Rock but it is much more than that. It is a message from victims and a plea for peace. There is not much to say about this. This is something that people just need to watch...and feel. Hopefully, it will motivate them in the right direction. Marillion "Gaza" When I was young it all seemed like a game Living here brought no sense of shame But now I'm older I've come to understand Once we had houses Once we had land They rained down bullets on us as our homes collapsed We lay beneath the rubble terrified Hoping.. Dare we dream? We gave up waiting For us, to dream is still a dream When I woke up, the house was broken stones We suddenly had nothing And nothing's changed We live, eight people, in this overcrowded heat Factory-farmed animals living in our own sweat Living like this is all my baby brother ever knew The world does nothing. What can we do? We will kick the ball We will skip the rope We will play outside. Be careful We will paint and draw. We will say our prayers Outside the pitiless sun bleaches the broken streets The darkness drops in the evening like an iron door The men play cards under torchlight The women stay inside Hell can erupt in a moment day or night You ask for trouble if you stray too close to the wall My father died ..feeding the birds Mum goes in front of me to check for soldiers For every hot-head stone ten come back For every hot-head stone a hundred come back For every rocket fired the drones come back For thirteen years the roads have all been closed We're isolated. We're denied medical supplies Fuel and work are scarce. They build houses on our farms The old men weep. The young men take up arms. We're packed like chickens in this town of block cement I get headache from the diesel. When it rains, the sewers too I had no idea what martyrdom meant Until my older brother.. my older brother I'm sorry. I can't continue. You sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind, it is said When people know they have no future Can we blame them if we cannot tame them? And when their hopes and dreams are broken And they feel they might as well be dead As they go, will we forgive them If they take us with them? Stay close Stay home Stay calm Have faith With the love of our family we can rise above anything Someday surely someone must help us With the love of our family we can rise above anything Someday surely someone must help us Even now we will go to school Even now we will dream to dream Someday surely someone must help us Nothing's ever simple - that's for sure There are grieving mothers on both sides of the wire And everyone deserves a chance to feel the future just might be bright But any way you look at it - whichever point of view For us to have to live like this It just ain't right It just ain't right It just ain't right We all want peace and freedom that's for sure But peace won't come from standing on our necks Everyone deserves a chance to feel the future just might be bright But any way you look at this - whichever point of view For us to have to live like this It just ain't right It just ain't right It just ain't right It's like a nightmare rose up slouching towards Bethlehem Like a nightmare rose up from this small strip of land Slouching towards Bethlehem It's like a nightmare rose up from this small strip of land Slouching towards Bethlehem Stay close Stay home Have faith I can't know what twist of history did this to me It's like a nightmare With the love of our family We can rise above anything Someday surely someone must help us...

- Taken from A Sunday Night Above The Rain. No surprise here... In an environment where the wealthy continue to devour all the profit and store it away, rather than investing it, at the expense of development and education - it becomes increasingly easier to con the people into voting for those (Republicans and Neo-Con Dems) who continue this behavior while creating greater economic struggle for the population. The important thing to remember here is that it is not the fault of the politicians but the faults of the people who keep electing them. First, they take your education away and make you ignorantly believe their lies, then you vote for them. It’s a vicious circle...and it will continue until the people learn how to govern themselves - which will never happen when they are being kept ignorant, divided and distracted by petty, unimportant things like entertainment, celebrity gossip, pro sports and everything else that’s more appealing than politics. Sure, those things are nice, but they aren’t the priority - any more than ‘recess’ was the priority when you were in grade school. Do you let your kids blow off their classes and just focus on extracurricular activities and socializing in school or do you expect them to focus on their studies? It is well past time for the electorate to start being good students again. Entertainment is nice - until your irresponsibility leads to complete failure of the systems and structures that allow you to be entertained. Then, you are just left to sit around and suffer for being irresponsible. Don’t expect the wealthy to do that. They don’t have to. They’re not suffering and they make all the rules. Even that group is shrinking because they are grossly irresponsible. There is no avoiding responsibility without paying dearly for it later. We certainly don’t need leaders that are going to jeopardize the future of our nation by doing selfish, irresponsible things. Do your part and make sure that doesn’t happen - but make sure you know what you are doing first! We should take care and ensure that we are part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Another great article... It seems that you have to be wealthy, chronically ill and addicted to pills to be of any use to Big Pharma. Sounds to me like there is a very big problem there...

Another great article... It seems that you have to be wealthy, chronically ill and addicted to pills to be of any use to Big Pharma. Sounds to me like there is a very big problem there... - For big pharma, the perfect patient is wealthy, permanently ill and a daily pill-popper. Will medicine ever recover?

Here's a great article that successfully describes something I've realized for a long time. Everyone could benefit from reading it, since it is a great standard of measure to figure out what kind of person someone is. You can tell a lot about people by what it takes for them to respect others.

- Today’s tax systems are unforgivably cack-handed

Consider this: If you were Juilan Assange - guilty in his home country of a rape and facing legal issues/prison for avoiding British justice...and facing serious issues in America for publishing classified intelligence material on WikiLeaks in an attempt to undermine Clinton and get Trump elected - and the intelligence community is now going all out to nail Trump, which might allow you the opportunity to reduce your damage by divulging information that you may only have about Trump and Co. attempt to sway the election, wouldn't you make a deal like this? Surely, you would be treated better in the US by the agents you screwed, but then helped dispose of a rogue President (that you helped elect). I'm sure you would fare better than you would in your own country after having been nailed by British courts and, consequently, American ones for not doing anything to rid America of this mistake in the Oval Office. This may very well be the nail in Trump & Co's coffin...

Trump and Xi, destroying the global economic balance as a result of trying to build their own 'cults of personality' and be 'God'. This is what happens when you have 2 major nations run by 2 demagogues who fail to learn the lessons of history. There can only be one 'Supreme Ruler' and, in the modern day, when everything depends on alliances and cooperation, there can be *no* supreme ruler. Neither of these individuals is anywhere near qualified, to begin with. Meanwhile, the rest of the world suffers...and, now, have pulled in another set of former allies - Saudi Arabia and Canada. This is an utter failure on a global level. This is not the kind of leadership we need...not in America or China or Saudi Arabia. Trudeau, no worries...you're doing just fine!

That’s the proper way to answer a ridiculous request - with style and grace! 😉👍

That’s the proper way to answer a ridiculous request - with style and grace! 😉👍 - Stories that connect us and sometimes even change the world.

'A REACTIONARY TRACT FOR THE TIMES' - WH Auden (Phi Beta Kappa Poem, Harvard, 1946) Ares at last has quit the field, The bloodstains on the bushes yield To seeping showers, And in their convalescent state The fractured towns associate With summer flowers. Encamped upon the college plain Raw veterans already train As freshman forces; Instructors with sarcastic tongue Shepherd the battle-weary young Through basic courses. Among bewildering appliances For mastering the arts and sciences They stroll or run, And nerves that steeled themselves to slaughter Are shot to pieces by the shorter Poems of Donne. Professors back from secret missions Resume their proper erudition, Though some regret it; They liked their dictaphones a lot, They met some big wheels, and do not Let you forget it. But Zeus' inscrutable decree Permits the will-to-disagree To be pandemic, Ordains that vaudeville shall preach And every commencement speech Be a polemic. Let Ares doze, that other war Is instantly declared once more ’Twixt those who follow Precocious Hermes all the way And those who without qualms obey Pompous Apollo. Brutal like all Olympic games, Though fought with smiles and Christian names And less dramatic, This dialectic strife between The civil gods is just as mean, And more fanatic. What high immortals do in mirth Is life and death on Middle Earth; Their a-historic Antipathy forever gripes All ages and somatic types, The sophomoric Who face the future’s darkest hints With giggles or with prairie squints As stout as Cortez, And those who like myself turn pale As we approach with ragged sail The fattening forties. The sons of Hermes love to play And only do their best when they Are told they oughtn’t; Apollo’s children never shrink From boring jobs but have to think Their work important. Related by antithesis, A compromise between us is Impossible; Respect perhaps but friendship never: Falstaff the fool confronts forever The prig Prince Hal. If he would leave the self alone, Apollo’s welcome to the throne, Fasces and falcons; He loves to rule, has always done it; The earth would soon, did Hermes run it, Be like the Balkans. But jealous of our god of dreams, His common-sense in secret schemes To rule the heart; Unable to invent the lyre, Creates with simulated fire Official art. And when he occupies a college, Truth is replaced by Useful Knowledge; He pays particular Attention to Commercial Thought, Public Relations, Hygiene, Sport, In his curricula. Athletic, extrovert and crude, For him, to work in solitude Is the offense, The goal a populous Nirvana: His shield bears this device: Mens Sana Qui Mal y Pense. Today his arms, we must confess, From Right to Left have met success, His banners wave From Yale to Princeton, and the news From Broadway to the Book Reviews Is very grave. His radio Homers all day long In over-Whitmanated song That does not scan, With adjectives laid end to end, Extol the doughnut and commend The Common Man. His, too, each homely lyric thing On sport or spousal love or spring Or dogs or dusters, Invented by some court-house bard For recitation by the yard In filibusters. To him ascend the prize orations And sets of fugal variations On some folk-ballad, While dietitians sacrifice A glass of prune juice or a nice Marshmallow salad. Charged with his compound of sensational Sex plus some undenominational Religious matter, Enormous novels by co-eds Rain down on our defenseless heads Till our teeth chatter. In fake Hermetic uniforms Behind our battle-line, in swarms That keep alighting, His existentialists declare That they are in complete despair, Yet go on writing. No matter; He shall be defied; White Aphrodite is on our side: What though his threat To organize us grow more critical? Zeus willing, we, the unpolitical, Shall beat him yet. Lone scholars, sniping from the walls Of learned periodicals, Our facts defend, Our intellectual marines, Landing in little magazines Capture a trend. By night our student Underground At cocktail parties whisper round From ear to ear; Fat figures in the public eye Collapse next morning, ambushed by Some witty sneer. In our morale must lie our strength: So, that we may behold at length Routed Apollo’s Battalions melt away like fog, Keep well the Hermetic Decalogue, Which runs as follows:-- Thou shalt not do as the dean pleases, Thou shalt not write thy doctor’s thesis On education, Thou shalt not worship projects nor Shalt thou or thine bow down before Administration. Thou shalt not answer questionnaires Or quizzes upon World-Affairs, Nor with compliance Take any test. Thou shalt not sit With statisticians nor commit A social science. Thou shalt not be on friendly terms With guys in advertising firms, Nor speak with such As read the Bible for its prose, Nor, above all, make love to those Who wash too much. Thou shalt not live within thy means Nor on plain water and raw greens. If thou must choose Between the chances, choose the odd; Read The New Yorker, trust in God; And take short views.

Technocracy is crushing the life out of humanism.

This was WAY overdue... Sometimes, you just have to be patient (and avoid clickbait). This will surely be the last of Alex Jones. I’m sure that if there are any people left that actually buy into his BS, all his followers will be doomed to the certainty of being considered idiots for the foreseeable future. They may have even saved the pitiful idiot from a massive heart attack. 😉

Still one of my favorite musicians! "Vitalij Kuprij is a Ukrainian/American pianist, composer, and keyboardist in the neo-classical progressive metal bands Artension and Ring of Fire. In 2009 he joined the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Vitalij Kuprij has been the recipient of numerous awards, prizes and is much in demand as a soloist, recitalist, pianist and composer throughout the United States and abroad. He has played in many countries throughout the world." "Vitalij began his piano studies at Kiev’s Mykola Lysenko Music Academy where he studied with Professor Nina Najditsch. Unlike most classically trained musicians, Vitalij’s crossover capability into the neo-classical world evidences him as a leading force in alternative rock and musical exploration as we know it today. He has numerous albums out under the Shrapnel Records, Marquee Avalon, and Yamaha labels." Aaron Rosand is quoted as saying: “Vitalij Kuprij is one of the outstanding pianists of his generation. His charismatic style, technique, and personality are reminiscent of piano legends of a bygone era. I have not heard Chopin played this well since Rubenstein.”

Stop making stupid people famous and - for the love of all that is logical - quit rewarding idiots for their bad behavior, especially when it is a greedy cash grab. Anyone who is even remotely intelligent and has a conscience knows this is not right and is well aware of the long-term real world effect and the social deconstruction. We have to live in the world we create and, for those Buddhists / body-art-covering-can't-get-a-decent-job-later / live-dangerously people who live in the moment with no consideration for the future - here's something to chew on: You're going to be a grandparent one day - maybe a political / religious / social leader - in the future (if you don't destroy that future now). You might want to plan ahead... Consider me judgmental if you like (though, it is a matter of logic), but just don't get mad later when we're suffering from our own Karma and, please...don't b!tch about the world we live in later on when the poor choices made in the past are what created it. ;)

How can anybody deny white privilege when thejust ice only applies to a few citizens (if you're a white person with affluent parents)? The Law is for sale...and that is not justice. It's easy to 'be OK with it' when it serves your purpose or when it doesn't affect you but just wait until it does and, like many non-whites and non-affluent people, it works against you. That is a double standard. Therein lies the greatest problem with 'justice: The double standard. Funny (but not actually) how it is always a matter of cash when regarding the double standard - justice, business, politics, civil law, you name it - it all reeks of corruption. Remember this the next time you tell someone what a wonderful, fair, free country you live in. Make sure you treat them fairly and with respect when they laugh in your face and tell you that you're full of $#!+... ...because they're 100% correct!

"Am I Evil?" Surprisingly, many people are - without even noticing it - and could be suffering the repercussions of their own actions (Karma). While I don't think it's always apathy (not caring) or intentional bad behavior, I do think it is often a matter of ignorance (they know not what they do). An interesting article to read:

You thought Trump was b@tsh!t crazy? He’s NOTHING compared to this psycho babbling, Civil War 2.0 starting, mentally deranged wingnut with ‘mad human disease’ and, if this guy isn’t dealt with real soon, there’s no telling how chaotic it will suddenly become to live in this once free, sane and relatively peaceful nation. This guy is every Constitutionally retarded, religious zealot, School and mall mass shooting, politician assassinating, right-wing Neo-Nazi jack booting psycho you have ever seen -all rolled up into one single psychotic public nuisance. If that imbecile currently residing in the Oval Office - who’s been the worst embarrassment in terms of leadership that the US has ever seen - isn’t removed from office very soon, everything is surely going to go sideways for every citizen living in this nation.
