- Do not make the mistake of the ignorant who think that an individualist is a man who says: “I’ll do as I please at everybody else’s expense.” An individualist is a man who recognizes the inalienable individual rights of man - his own and those of others. An individualist is a man who says: “I will not run anyone’s life - nor let anyone run mine. I will not rule nor be ruled. I will not be a master nor a slave. I will not sacrifice myself to anyone - nor sacrifice anyone to myself." - Ayn Rand

Brilliant... ^_^

Brilliant... ^_^ - Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 – 16 November 1973) was a British philosopher, writer, and speaker, best known as an interpreter and populariser of Eastern...

There is a reason President Eisenhower (a US Military General) warned the US electorate about empowering The Military Industrial Complex. The reason for this is very profound and, to anyone with a logical mind, very good advice. You see, if we use billion-dollar weapons, we have obviously spent a majority of government money (civilian tax money) to make them and probably intend to use them. If we use them - which is a great idea for those making them since they get to replenish them once they are spent - at a steep price to American citizens, we are going to create a lot of enemies. In order to 'defend ourselves' (from the fictitious problem we have created which is just a financial opportunity depriving millions of Americans of resources they pay for and costing millions of lives worldwide), we will have to keep making them and that is expensive, so we spend billions on weapons and the cycle goes on and on. People die (usually foreigners - at least, until Kashoggi), companies who make devices of death profit (I have an uncle who designed weapons for the DOD and another one who created life-saving equipment for soldiers - I'll let you decide which one I appreciated more), Americans suffer an economy that neither educates them, updates their infrastructure or allows them to live the safe, financially secure lives they could be living, creates political crime by way of elevating people who would support this criminal enterprise of killing people for profit (or jailing them, like the privatized American prison system) and we keep 'drinking the Kool-Aid' these politicians, corporations and media hacks keep throwing to us while they destroy lives, rape our economy and take the money to the bank (another group that is heavily involved). I cannot comprehend how it can be so difficult for people to see what is - and has been - going on without doing anything about it. The terrorism is created, the need for weapons is created, the profit from death is created and the only people who are not benefiting from all of it are the people who are paying for all of it...the American citizens. Well, now an American citizen has died and our leader is trying to look the other way so he can sell billions of dollars of US weapons to a country that was the origin of 19 people who brought down the WTC, Bin Lade and his 50 siblings, host of the most violent sect of Islam (Wahabism) and many US citizens just keep on putting their red ball caps on and rooting for the most egregious, greedy, narcissist ever to have a stranglehold on this nation and blatantly violate all that Americans want this country to be - right under the uneducated noses (no doubt, thanks to education being raped by war profiteers) of the very Americans this half-wit is supposed to be serving. If you cannot see the inherent misfortune in that or comprehend that nothing in the future of any benefit to this nation will ever come of it, I would advise you to spend a great deal more time studying...since not doing so may very well destroy your future, the future of all other people and the health and longevity of this beautiful planet - the only place we humans have to live...and if you're counting on NASA to save you, give up. I have long since given up that idealistic fantasy when I realized we are far too busy spending money on killing each other and destroying the planet than on what we intend to do when there is no longer any safe place to live. Education is freedom! ;)

Well, it might be a really good idea to think about voting for a Republican judge (never heard of a Democrat, Progressive, Libertarian, etc. doing this) when they'll spitefully decide to release many violent youth offenders into the public because they lost their re-election bid. Fortunately, the youth offenders' cases will be heard again. After all, we can't just let (possibly mentally) deficient judges try cases if we all want any chance at survival. In fact, if I were a member of the State Bar Assn., I would make sure this guy never practiced law or sat in judgment of another case for the rest of his life. It's a pity people will throw away their morals and ethics for such petty things. No wonder there are so many problems in the legal system (among others, such as teachers and priests that can't keep their hands off of children). Always keep your eyes open, folks!

This one is sure to ruffle a few feathers! Ever notice how many conservatives are leveraged to the point of deep personal debt - home loans, car loans, school loans, etc. - and seem to have a rather unnerving, irrational or unethical passion for capital acquisition at any cost? Do you really think it is a coincidence? I'm just curious since, in a world where there is little financial security - in favor of debt slavery - and people want to 'live the American Dream' at any cost...just what is the actual cost? Integrity? Ethics? Morality? Freedom? Are people willing to go into debt to spend the rest of their lives working to pay for what they have already spent? How real is 'success'? How well you hide your debt? How well you screw others to pay it off? I wonder where all this will eventually lead... The future should be interesting (or very disturbing and depressing). I guess we'll see... But hey, what do *I* know? Could it be...being free from debt (That is my choice and it always has been)? "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time..." ;)

Could this be what is holding the human race back? If so (which I firmly believe, myself), why is that? Is this because we have a lot of people who cannot manage to find continuous progress in their fields or are one-off successes and need to make these claims in order to capitalize? Is this because of the current system of commerce and law? Is that system founded on these principles or vice-versa? Is it because there is an inherent lack of trust in society - at regional as well as international levels? Is this because of a lack of ethics and morals? Is it because of nationalism? Is it a failure, overall, of the human race? Truly, there are so many questions I can imagine, based on this article, it would make the average head swim (if it hasn't already - and I am far from finished). The reasons for asking these questions? Well, it has everything to do with the future of the human race, the planet, commerce, research and development and so many other things (an equally tiring list). What do you think this planet would look like and / or the people living on it would enjoy if intellectual property wasn't stifling cooperation and collective creativity, growth, exploration, development, etc? I can tell you I've had the pleasure (to some degree) of enjoying just such an environment. It was when I worked in the Space Program (NASA), one of the few places - at that time - where nations, engineers, scientists and many others from various locations, cultures, experiences and educations put their minds together and created great, incredible things. The only question I have now is...what happened to us? (Yes, I have plenty of theories as to that response, just as I have theories to the above questions) I think we can do better...

A great article but, in my opinion, it falls short... Whereas I believe it's important to keep passion alive (in whatever form, whether religious, artistic or otherwise) as a counter-balance to 'reasoning oneself into an untenable position (something that often manifests itself in the suicidal and bereft of hope), I think we also need to keep in mind that reason is just as important as a 'bulwark' against the very motivations to which irresponsible passion can and does often lead. In my humble opinion, the 'tree of divine wisdom' has two branches - reason and faith (or passion, in this case). One protects us from zealotry and unreasonable fantasy and the other protects us from our failure to grasp epistemology or 'the theory of human knowledge'. Ideally, these 'branches' should be of equal length. I also believe that the failure of many to tend to this responsibility is the reason we have so many problems in the world today - scatterbrained artists (Van Gogh is a great example), terrorism, religious zealots, criminal leadership and so on (things which are not necessarily mutually exclusive).

I am fairly certain you will be glad you did. ๐Ÿค” (And no, I am not Libertarian either. That is clearly never going to work in a nation full of irresponsible people.)

This is an important video - even though I have no doubt there will be many minds that are closed to it. I hope you will watch it. I don't just say so because I spent years of my life in precisely this situation - as a Muslim, though, I am a philosopher and it was part of my journey, which also has included Buddhism as well as Full-Gospel Christianity (through immersion, the only way to truly understand) and other philosophies, but am now Agnostic - but because it is a form of remedy to counter many of the problems in the world today - it is a step towards deep understanding. It is almost impossible to be able to understand these situations without being right next to them - and that is a place many fear to go. Those who are courageous are the ones who enjoy the benefit of deep wisdom and freedom from the 'fear of the unknown'. And it is those who exploit these fears who are the true enemies of the unenlightened. The religion, the race, the gender, the sexual alignment - whatever the difference, it is knowledge that overcomes the fear that leads to terrible beliefs and openness to exploitation by opportunists. That's why I spent the greater part of my life on a journey of exploration and (sometimes) risky exposure to things outside my comfort zone. It is precisely those two motivations that have opened my mind. It is knowledge from experience and not fear and exploitation due to ignorance that is the true reward. In return for those risks and efforts, I have friends of many races, religions, genders, sexual preferences, cultures, perspectives and, to be quite honest, I would not want to live on this planet without that blessing or to do so without showing gratitude for it, which I do so through respect and support for all my friends. I only wish that there were more like me and much less who are afraid and / or being exploited so that all of us could enjoy the opportunity to learn or, like in my case, to be with our family...because I really love and miss my son, Faaris. In fact, families are often the greatest tragic victims of these irrational, unfortunate situations. So, yes, it is not just a risk, but it is also a compromise. C'est la vie (such is life)... Still, I have no regrets. ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿ˜Š

There was no way Trump was going to come out of this in any favorable position and, even if he did, by some miracle, he is Trump - someone who consistently shoves his feet in his mouth. The only thing he has done is drawn out the long, painful and inevitable destruction of his own Party and their self-important agenda which has no benefit whatsoever for the American people. He's little more than 'Nixon on Quaaludes' and almost out of time. Not just his party but their agenda, racism, voter suppression and gerrymandering, political dishonesty, financial corruption, the sacrifice of education, the political manipulation of big pharma and the war on drugs, etc., etc....are all very much bucking a trend in toe other direction. They are pissing in the wind and, soon, they're bound to catch some frightening blow-back. It's only a matter of time...and time will tell.

I wonder how successful this could be if it were nationwide. I also wonder how many 'representatives' in the local governments would try to shut it down to prevent it from crippling their ability to skim from local budgets. I'm pretty sure it would return a lot of discretionary control to the people who are directly affected in each given area but also prevent (or greatly complicate) local 'leaders' from mis-appropriating or otherwise allocating funds from one area to another in order to evict some and create more opportunity for others (often, the former being poor and the latter being rich). It also seems that this corruption with the way things are now actually fuels the increasing gap between the poor-middle-upper classes. This seems to be a much better way to prevent corruption and promote fairer oversight of community rehabilitation and improvement. There is definitely no down side to that. It would allow those in communities that are struggling the most to maintain an environment that allows them a greater opportunity to benefit the overall city, state and nation while reigning in that corruption. Isn't 'the inability to remain productive' what so many people complain about when they point out these poor neighborhoods (that are often getting thrown under the bus and railroaded by gold-digging reps who steal the funds they need to be productive, rather than assisted in order to flourish)? Surely, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to understand this. Everyone with a brain knows thiat what is going on now is wrong and, if they believe otherwise, it is no doubt due to some bias, fear, self-importance, selfishness or other equally disturbing (sub)human quality. I suspect it only takes a heart/compassion...and morality/ethics to understand. Ultimately, I believe the world will be divided between those who are hedonistic and those who are altruistic. It is, after all, what causes so many terrible ills in society, these days - political specifics notwithstanding. When that time comes, I certainly hope people are standing on the correct side of that dividing line, since nobody will have any compassion and/or sympathy for those who have none for others and, if it ever becomes the 'litmus test' for 'who gets to live and who gets to die/go to prison/get deported...I'll bet it'll become a lot more important to those who don't really seem to care right now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

๐Ÿ˜‰ - Participatory budgeting is an experiment in grassroots democracy that gives citizens partial control of a municipal budget.

It's a little late for all that. I guess reality is starting to set in. We'll see you at the Congressional hearing(s). I doubt they will be extending an olive branch - you know, since your rhetoric led to so many deaths. Even if you aren't responsible for those deaths, there is plenty you are responsible for. I'm sure it'll all work out in Congress. BTW, nice tax cut for the middle class that you said would happen before the Midterm election, you know, the one you promised after Congress was no longer in session...that never materialized. I'm sure that lie (and the other 5,000 you've told since 2016) will all come out in hearings soon enough. It's karma time...

Ah yes, the company that employed over 800,000 Chinese employees - many of whom jumped off the roof of the factory and committed suicide, necessitating nets being installed to prevent future tragedies (I know first hand, since I worked with HR and management of this company while in China) - is one of Trump's pet projects. The statistics regarding the project are damning, to say the least. Unfortunately, it is a lot easier to screw a worker in China for the benefit of country and company and...even more unfortunately, in the US, it will probably be a lot of taxpayers who will be looking for roofs to jump off (or malls and churches to shoot up / congressmen they voted into office to mail bombs to - as the case seems to be). Isn't it wonderful how Trump is 'Making America Great Again'? Unfortunately, anyone who is buying into that BS has much to learn. The only people that are profiting from these deals are the government and corporations - while the people foot the bill, however unaware they may be. Too bad the majority of Americans seem to have no clue about government, basic economics or business. I suppose they'll just keep on watching their football games, Netflix and shopping at the mall while disregarding politics altogether except for about a week or two before a vote...when they'll suddenly assume they know all they need to know to vote safely, even though they haven't paid a bit of attention for most of their lives and it takes a Hell of a lot longer to figure out the tricky BS these politicians spend every day doing than the couple of weeks most voters seem to pay attention. That's going to result in some painful karma - and, in fact, already has (repeatedly). All you need to do is look at who ran for President in 2016. I wouldn't have voted for either one of them if my ass were on fire and they were holding a bucket of water. That is what you get for not paying attention. ;) Get used to it!
