Brings back memories... This is very close to where I lived when I first moved to Asia in 2003 (I lived on Penang Island - Georgetown, Malaysia - in the background, near the mountain). I suppose, this time around, they were pretty lucky... The last time I was there, this area was buried in a 1-story high tsunami that killed a quarter of a million people in Southeast Asia. We were very lucky that we left the immediate area where the tsunami hit about an hour before it made landfall (and would have killed us) and lived in the center of the island, near the mountain, where the elevation was much higher. At any rate, not a very pleasant memory...what a long, strange trip it's been!
