It's actually stunning (and a bit depressing) to see how many people make these mistakes. It is also very revealing (for example, there are a lot of Republicans who do so - making it often easy to determine who the capitalist hedonists are...and who the bigots are, since bigots are notoriously uneducated). The depressing part is *not* when you hear normal citizens making these grammatical or spelling errors, but when you see politicians, corporate leaders and people in the mainstream media making them. It really isn't that difficult to get right...if one focuses (and doesn't want to sound ignorant). You can easily tell a wannabe from the real thing. Oh, and before someone tries to call me a 'grammar Nazi' (since I'll just invoke 'Godwin's law'), it's a BS excuse, especially when one knows it is true. If this applies to you, do yourself a favor...don't find an excuse, find a solution! ^_^
