Maybe, if we're lucky, communications technology will progress to the point where it is unable to be censored and/or regulated. At that point, it will be the way it should be - where those who have the capability to comprehend, utilize, manage and prioritize the data efficiently and effectively will be the ones with the upper hand. I'm sure many believe that this could also create devastating results, but I'm pretty sure that the reason we can even look forward to such a day is because there are plenty of people who are quite happy being uncensored and who have unlimited access to information that are doing the right things with that advantage - and, no doubt, those who would do otherwise are probably doing so specifically because they are censored, controlled, limited or otherwise restricted. There is also the very real argument that, given enough knowledge and freedom, any intelligent, well-educated human is going to opt for good behavior and productive creativity. There is little or no good that can come from its opposite and, more often than not, it is the bad behavior and authoritarian overbearing of others that motivates people to be destructive. I suppose we will have to wait and see. It's probably inevitable...

But the way the light is encoded at one end and processed at the other affects data speeds.
