I'm excited to share the first of many TimTalks - a series of videos discussing the issues that matter to the people of South Florida. I wanted to start with an issue that has deeply impacted on my life - social security. My father passed away suddenly when I was 10 years old, leaving my mom in charge of three young kids. Because we had social security survivor's benefits, our family was able to stick together and make it through some tough times. But today, social security benefits have not kept up with inflation and millions of seniors are struggling. In Florida, 11 percent of seniors over 65 live below the poverty line, which is $11,770 a year for a senior living alone. South Florida needs someone who will actually care about our seniors - I am that person.
